In August 2015, Professor Shinpei Kato of Nagoya University released Autoware. Shinpei Kato
Born in 1982. After obtaining a doctorate (engineering) from Keio University in 2008, he went to the United States. He worked as a researcher at Carnegie Mellon University and the University of California.
In 2012, he returned to Japan and joined Nagoya University as an associate professor at the young age of 30. He is a renowned international computer science researcher who has published many notable papers. His research achievements were applied to develop the autonomous driving software "Autoware," which garnered attention when it was released as an open-source software worldwide.
He founded TierIV on December 1, 2015. The company has expanded its autonomous driving system business in more than ten countries and has become a central player in the industry.
In 2016, he joined the University of Tokyo as an associate professor.
In 2018, he established The Autoware Foundation, an international industry group, and became its chairman.
